Great Lakes WBC Women's Business Center Named SBA National Women's Business Center of Excellence!
The Great Lakes WBC SBA Women's Business Center, with only a three-person team, was recognized as the SBA National Women's Business Center of Excellence! Shawntay Dixon, Director of Education, received the award at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. during National Small Business Week. The SBA said that the award was granted for work in development and implementation of business development programs. Great Lakes WBC Women's Business Center also received state and regional recognition leading up to the National recognition. Tiffany Klingensmith, owner of USI Groups, was named the Michigan Small Business Person of the Year and was awarded her recognition in Washington, D.C during the same week.
"The award is a testament to the women's businesses we serve and the impact we're making with them," Dixon shared. "Being able to make such an impact with our small but mighty team speaks well of the work we do."
Recently joining the Women's Business Center team of Shawntay Dixon, Sherry Cummins and Lori Wesby are Danielle Brown, Krystal Jones and Surlinda Gant.

Shawntay Dixon, Women’s Business Center Program Manager of Great Lakes Women’s Business Council (WBC) has been named 2021 Marsha Bailey Leadership Award Winner. Shawntay was selected by the Association of Women's Business Centers for this national award for her servent leadership and commitment to excellence. There are over 140 SBA Womens Business Centers in the United States who support the efforts of women-owned businesses. Shawntay is the program manager for the Great Lakes WBC Women's Business Center which also hosts the portal, Michigan Women's Marketplace. We congratulate Shawntay on this notable recognition and her efforts in growing women business owners and their businesses.
